(This was a poem written by Mom, knowing she was losing her sight)
In the years ahead
If my eyes grow dim and I cannot see
I'll have all the things
That through the years, memory has stored for me.
Like the flowers that bloom
Each with a special color all it's own
So delicate as it opens it's face
And slowly follows the sun.
The blue of the sky
As it blends with bright shades at sunset
And the rainbow, that ends
In a field where the grass is wet.
I'll remember the stars in the sky
As they twinkle all through the night
The big round moon that shines
With soft and gossimer light.
I'll see the trees of the forest
Standing tall and sublime
Near blue lakes where little waves
Lap the sands of the shore line.
I'll feel the cool moss
That clings to the rocks in the shade
Where a crack issues forth
Bubbling water where a spring was made.
I'll think of the days
When the sun shone bright and warm
And the feel of cooling rain
So refreshing during a summer storm.
I'll see again the faces
Of loved ones and tender smiles
The shining eyes of children
Filled with faith to begin lifes trials.
All these beautiful things
I've had the privilege to know
I ask that nothing ever erase them
And that I'll be thankful wherever I go.

Laurie and I returned a week or so ago from a short
trip by auto to California. We traveled out through Coeur d' Alene, Idaho and Spokane, Washington
on our way West, down partway through the Columbia River gorge to The Dalles Ore. where
we spent the first night.
The weather was cool and comfortable, a nice breeze
blowing up from the ocean and the "Sail Boarders" and others using Kites to pull
them were having a great time on the river. We also saw several large barges being pushed
by Tug Boats as they slowly moved up stream.
Next morning we were off south to Prineville, Or. From
there we made our way up and over a pass through the Sisters Mountains then down into
Springfield, Ore. catching Interstate "I-5" heading So. Stopped again for the night in Grants
Pass, Ore.
The rest of the trip took two more days. We stopped
in Willits Ca. to visit a longtime friend. Leaving, we continued down the coast and over to the
little town of Grass Valley, Ca. We spent a few days there, later making our way home up
through Nevada where we had a nice visit with our daughter Pam & family in Reno. On leaving,
after a great breakfast with sisters Bev, Lenna, also niece Wendy, we headed northeast on
Interstate "80" turned north on to Hwy 95 at Winnamucca, NV. on through eastern Ore., Idaho
and spending one more night in Onterio, Ore. we journeyed back into Montana.

This past month of April has been a mixed bag of
weather. We have experienced a full array of "Mother Nature's" whims with
thunder & lightning, high wind, rain & snow showers spiked with frequent doses of sun-shine,
warming and cooling days - you name it and we have had it this spring in Montana here on
"Flathead Lake".
